How to list a rental on Vrbo
To list on Vrbo, create an account with your address and room counts, complete the onboarding details, then select Go live. Have your photos, headline, house rules, rates, check-in times and local registration information ready before you start.
The three stages
Vrbo's help center breaks listing into three steps:
- Create your account. Choose your bedroom and bathroom count, enter your address, check the map pin, then log in or create a Vrbo account.
- Complete onboarding. Add amenities, rooms, photos, headline, description, house rules, rates, promotions, fees, booking options, calendar, host information, local laws and taxes.
- Finish and go live. Fix anything missing or incomplete, then select Go live to make the listing available on the Vrbo marketplace.
Your listing goes live only when you select Go live.
What to have ready
- Property: type, bedrooms, bathrooms, any extra sleeping spaces, and whether you have a smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detector.
- Photos that follow Vrbo's photo guidelines. Vrbo may ask you to replace ones that do not.
- Headline: 40 characters or fewer, highlighting one or two key features. Vrbo says not to include policies, size information, the word private, or all caps.
- Description: amenities, sleeping spaces and outdoor features.
- House rules: your pet policy and whether events are allowed, with an optional maximum number of attendees.
- Rates and fees: your bank's location, your nightly rate, and any cleaning or pet fee.
- Booking options: check-in and check-out times, minimum and maximum stay, and how far ahead guests can book.
- Calendar: an open calendar (every date available) or a blocked calendar (every date blocked except the ones you open).
- Host information: billing address, and the host's full name if different from the account holder.
- Local laws: the registration information your location requires. Vrbo gives a property registration number as an example. You also say whether you are a professional or private host.
Pick the calendar carefully
If you will run your booking software across channels, decide which calendar Vrbo starts with before you publish. A blocked calendar means nothing is bookable until you open dates, which is safer when the rest of your setup is not finished. Once your booking software is connected, rates and availability should be synced across channels so a night can only sell once. See the tech stack guide.
Where Listed & Live fits
A Vrbo listing is included in our Complete setup, $2,500 per property, along with Booking.com, a direct booking page, and synced rates and calendars. If you start on Essentials, adding an extra channel such as Vrbo is $500. See pricing. Permits, licenses and taxes stay with you.
Questions people ask
How do I list my property on Vrbo?
Create an account with your bedroom and bathroom count and address, complete the onboarding details, then select Go live. The three stages above follow Vrbo's help center.
Is a Vrbo listing included in your setup?
On Complete, yes: $2,500 per property includes Vrbo, Booking.com, a direct booking page and synced rates. On Essentials, Vrbo is an extra channel for $500.
Do I need a license to list on Vrbo?
Vrbo asks you to add information required by local laws, with a property registration number as an example. Permits and licenses are the owner's responsibility, and we do not handle them.
Should I start with an open or blocked calendar?
Vrbo lets you pick either. A blocked calendar is safer if the rest of your setup is still unfinished, since no dates are bookable until you open them.
